Macquarie Government at Washington DC Cyber Security Summit
This week I am proud to be representing Macquarie Government in Washington DC as part of the Australian delegation to the inaugural Australia-US Cyber Security Dialogue.
The dialogue – organised by the Australian Strategic policy Institute and its US counterpart the Center for Strategic & International Studies – was first announced by the Prime Minister on his first trip to the US last year.

The PM will lead the Australian delegation which comprises the top policy advisers, leading businesses and most distinguished academics in the field of cyber security.
Normally bilateral dialogues are the exclusive domain of government officials & advisors from each country. What is different here is that the private sector has a unique role to play in cyber because they own much of the infrastructure that needs to be protected, and possess domain knowledge to raise the bar in defending against bad actors (hackers and viruses et al). And for some, they are on the cyber-security defence front line with government. This makes our nation’s cyber-security statute dependent on a genuine public-private partnership, both domestically and internationally.
The themes to be discussed explore the latest developments and thinking on cyber security and how we can all collaborate better across the region to lift the safety and security of people and organisations operating online across the region.
Collaboration is a subject close to the heart of Macquarie Government. As a provider of front line security to well over a third of Federal Government agencies, we strive every day to work as partners to our clients, as we understand that is the only way to respond to the rapidly moving and evolving threats they face in the digital age.
Our Regional Role
We are also great believers that Australia can be an example, a champion and a leader in great security practices for the region. In fact, we think it is a responsibility we have to our neighbours to provide that leadership and I look forward to giving our views on how we can improve collaboration in our own backyard. We firmly believe this is the best path for Australia to provide that regional leadership.
